Twins Officially Cut Ties With Former Dodgers Reliever

Luis Garcia was once a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers' quest for a second straight World Series title.

Ahead of the 2025 season, the Dodgers signed Garcia to a minor league deal. While president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman signed All-Star Tanner Scott to a four-year, $72 million deal that same offseason, he is well known for his reclamation projects in the bullpen.

Garcia earned his way to the major league roster before the start of the regular season and emerged as a key arm for the Dodgers amid their injury crisis to the pitching staff last season.

He was placed on the 15-day injured list June 1, 2025 with a right adductor strain and was designated him for assignment before the Dodgers released him upon his return from injury a month later.

He left the Dodgers organization with a 5.27 ERA with 24 strikeouts and 1.829 WHIP across 27.1 innings of work throughout the 2025 season. Only a few days after his release, Garcia was picked up by the Washington Nationals, who eventually traded him to the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline.

Garcia then signed a one-year deal with the New York Mets in the winter. The $1.75 million deal came after he posted a 0.90 ERA in 10 games for the Nationals and then a 2.00 ERA across 20 games with the Angels. He was released by the Mets in April after a lackluster performance.

Less than a year after being DFA'd by the Dodgers, the Minnesota Twins have officially cut ties with the veteran reliever after he posted a 9.00 ERA across 15 innings of work.

According to MLB's transaction log, the Twins designated Garcia for assignment Saturday. If he clears waivers in 10 days, Minnesota has the option to release him.

Garcia, 39 holds a 4.20 ERA in 618 career MLB appearances.
