With the MLB trade deadline set for this Thursday, all eyes are on Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan.
Kwan has been a key contributor for the Guardians since 2022, winning a Gold Glove in each of the past three seasons and appearing in back-to-back All-Star games. He's currently batting .286 this year with nine home runs and 38 RBI.
The Guardians have Kwan under team control through 2027, but his price will only get more expensive. Instead of dealing with arbitration, the front office has decided to scan the market for trade suitors.
Initially, the Los Angeles Dodgers were mentioned as the pr ime landing spot for Kwan. On Wednesday, however, MLB insider Jon Heyman named two other suitors for the 27-year-old outfielder.
Heyman said the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres are interested in acquiring Kwan before the deadline at 6 p.m. ET.
"Padres and Reds in addition to Dodgers (and others) are in on the Steven Kwan derby. Kwan with Luis Arraez would be quite the interesting combo," Heyman said.
Kwan isn't the only marquee player on the Guardians mentioned in trade talks. According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand , the front office is also looking to move All-Star pitcher Shane Bieber.
Bieber hasn't pitched since April 2024 due to Tommy John surgery. However, he made his second rehab start earlier this week for Double-A Akron. If teams are willing to gamble on his health, he could be an interesting option.
For now though, Cleveland fans are locked in on the Steven Kwan sweepstakes.
