Tylor Megill 'tentatively scheduled' to start playing catch amid Mets' injury woes

In what's become a rarity during May, it appears the first-place New York Mets may have some positive news to share with fans regarding their rotation ahead of this weekend's series at the Colorado Rockies. 

As Danny Abriano explained for SNY, New York right-hander Tylor Megill is "tentatively scheduled" to start playing catch today as he works to return to the rotation from the biceps tendinitis in his pitching arm that landed him on the injured list retroactively last week. While Megill is eligible to be activated on May 27, it is unclear if he will make any rehab starts before he returns to the big-league roster. 

Megill initially replaced ace Jacob deGrom ahead of Opening Day, as the two-time Cy Young Award winner hasn't yet taken the bump this season due to a stress reaction in the scapula of his pitching shoulder. The 26-year-old went 4-2 with a 4.41 ERA in seven starts before his setback. 

The Mets need Megill fully healthy as soon as possible. It was learned Thursday that three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer is on track to miss six to eight weeks of action with a high grade internal oblique strain, and general manager Billy Eppler told reporters earlier this week that there's still no absolute timetable for when deGrom may make his first start of the campaign. 

Jon Heyman of the New York Post wrote Thursday that deGrom's "best-case scenario is likely July now." It's thought the Mets could keep the 33-year-old out through that month's All-Star break.
