Before Thursday's tilt with the Washington Nationals, the Chicago Cubs announced that reliever Tyson Miller had been designated for assignment.

Miller has been rehabbing a hip injury for the initial months of 2025, but there is unfortunately no room on the roster now that he is ready to return to action. Miller did not have any minor league options remaining, leaving the organization in a tough spot given the current structure of the bullpen.
Brad Keller, Drew Pomeranz, Caleb Thielbar, and Daniel Palencia have solidified high-leverage job, while Ryan Brasier, Ryan Pressly, Génesis Cabrera, and Chris Flexen are all signed to major league contracts and are pitching well right now.
Miller was one of Manager Craig Counsell's most trusted arms last season after the team sent minor league infielder Jake Slaughter to the Seattle Mariners for him in May of 2024. In 49 appearances for Chicago, Miller dazzled with a 2.15 ERA, 14 holds, and 42 strikeouts over 50.1 innings pitched. Miller also limited opposing hitters to just a .178 batting average with a spectacular 0.81 WHIP.
Miller will be placed on waivers, where it's hard to imagine none of the 29 other MLB teams will not claim him after his impressive 2024 season.
