The Milwaukee Brewers have quite an impressive roster for MLB’s third annual Spring Breakout event. Players like Jesus Made, Luis Pena, Cooper Pratt, Blake Burke, Brady Ebel, and Andrew Fischer, highlight the position player group, but on the pitching side there wasn’t any highly touted prospects like in years past, such as when Jacob Misiorowski competed in the event.
However, that didn’t stop one Brewers pitching prospect from stealing the show. 2024 third round pick Jaron DeBerry was electric on the mound, as the right-hander generated an insane amount of whiffs.
During the Brewers Spring Breakout game on Friday, March 20, DeBerry threw 32 pitches over two scoreless innings. He recorded just three strikeouts, but led the game with 10 whiffs. He picked up three whiffs each on his curveball, cutter, and four-seam fastball, while his two-seamer generated one swing and miss.
According to Statcast, DeBerry didn’t rely on overpowering velocity as his four-seam fastball averaged 93 mph, but instead leaned on a high spin rate to create significant movement. His curveball registered 2,885 RPM with 52 inches of total drop. His other pitches also showed strong spin rates: changeup (2,750 RPM), slider (2,728 RPM), cutter (2,525 RPM), and fastball (2,347 RPM).
DeBerry’s showing against other elite prospects perhaps shows why the Brewers advanced him across three levels last year. He finished 2025 in Double-A, which is a likely good starting point for the 23-year old, but it’s clear he has the success to potentially move up to Triple-A at some point this year.
