Erick Fedde gave UNLV fans a familiar reason to check the box score Wednesday.
The former Rebel worked five scoreless innings for the Chicago White Sox in an 8-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. Fedde earned the win after allowing two hits and one walk. He also struck out two while throwing 40 of his 61 pitches for strikes.
Notably, Fedde faced 18 batters and retired 15 of them. Because of that, Chicago never gave Minnesota a clean path back into the game.
The White Sox backed Fedde right away. Chicago scored four runs in the first inning, then added one in the sixth and three more in the eighth.
Meanwhile, Fedde protected the lead with a steady five-inning start. Grant Taylor followed with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Then Chris Murphy finished the shutout with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Chicago finished with 12 hits and no errors. Minnesota managed five hits and committed three errors.

Fedde’s story has always carried a Las Vegas stamp. He was born in Las Vegas, attended Las Vegas High School and stayed home to pitch at UNLV.
The son of Scott and Carla Fedde, he became one of the Rebels’ top arms before Washington selected him No. 18 overall in the 2014 MLB Draft. At UNLV, Fedde finished 21-10 with a 3.18 ERA and 231 strikeouts across 263.1 innings.
Andrew Benintendi drove in two runs and hit an eighth-inning homer. S. Antonacci went 4-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and two doubles.
In the end, Fedde did not need overpowering numbers. Instead, he filled the zone, limited traffic and gave Chicago exactly what it needed
