The Milwaukee Brewers have been waiting with bated breath for the update on outfielder Sal Frelick, who left Sunday's game against the Cubs with left knee discomfort.
Frelick, who has been one of the Crew's most productive hitters this season, hitting .297, was held out of the lineup Monday against the Astros as he was still feeling the effects.
The MRI on Frelick's knee came back showing no structural damage, they didn't believe anything was torn. There was some inflammation that needed to settle down. Frelick provided an update of his own ahead of Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros.
"The MRI was clean, no tears or anything. Just a ton of inflammation in there. They were saying it's like a meniscus sprain, almost." Frelick said.
He went on to add, "Yesterday I came in, it was not too much better, then this morning I woke up and it was like unbelievable. I went out, jogged around a little bit, did the dynamic, took a couple swings in the cage."
Frelick feeling much better now two days removed from the injury is great news for him and the Brewers, who have been looking at being down their three top centerfielders. According to Frelick, the plan is to let him continue to rest up and see if his knee continues to feel better and with the off day on Thursday, to then target a return to the lineup on Friday against the Rays.
Avoiding an IL stint is crucial for Frelick and this Brewers team that cannot afford any more injuries. They've extended a lot of their roster depth already and Frelick has been one of the bright spots this season.
