After breaking their four-game losing streak, the Diamondbacks will look to gain back some more ground on Tuesday night against the Giants.
Getting back to .500 with a 42-42 record was a step in the right direction for the D-Backs, though they need to start stacking wins. While Arizona deals with every injury in the book it seems, they still have some stars to rely on with Ketel Marte, Geradlo Perdomo, and Eugenio Suárez.
Zac Gallen will look to get back on track against the Giants on Tuesday. It’s been a tough season for Gallen in his contract year, as he cannot seem to find any consistency. The 5-9 record and 5.75 ERA are very uncharacteristic for Gallen as he has been one of the best pitchers for the franchise in the past few seasons. In Gallen’s last outing, he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up five earned runs on eight hits in a loss to the Chicago White Sox.
The San Francisco Giants will be hoping their struggling right-handed pitcher Hayden Birdsong will get it going on Tuesday night. Birdsong hasn’t gotten a win in his last four outings and has allowed a total of 14 runs in his last three starts. Arizona will have its opportunities to get on the board and will need to take advantage to regain some ground before the Snakes find themselves too far behind.
Arizona was able to take care of business in their pitchers’ duel last night, but now looks toward Tuesday night. With Gallen’s struggles, they will need to attack at the plate often to be in contention and not let the Giants tie the series up. The first pitch at Chase Field is at 6:40 p.m. PT.
