Recent news has just come out that the Arizona Diamondbacks will be releasing infielder/outfielder Garrett Hampson.

Just a week ago, utility player Garrett Hampson was designated for assignment, and it is now confirmed that he will be on his way to becoming a free agent. Hampson passed through waivers and was unclaimed, and it seems both sides are ready to move on.

Garrett Hampson signed with the D-Backs in this recent off-season and worked his way into the opening-day starting lineup. So far, in 30 major league at-bats on the season, he’s hitting a .167 batting average with only five hits. The speedy Hampson also has two stolen bases on the season.

Tawa takeover:

This move shows that Arizona is making moves to bolster its depth in case injuries arise. If anything were to happen, it’s more than just having a guy who can play any position, but rather someone who can bring a presence at the plate.

Hampson has proved useful in a ton of different positions for this Arizona ball club and will surely be picked up by a team that might need some help in whatever aspect. It seemed that with the rise of Tim Tawa and the call-up of Jordan Lawler though that Hampson’s days might be numbered. Tim Tawa on the season has a .228 batting average with 18 hits and five home runs.

The D-Backs will now get ready to play against the Dodgers tonight as they begin a three-game series in Los Angeles.
