Vladimir Guerrero Jr. issues apology after controversial comments

Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been facing a lot of criticism after a frustrating 2026 season.

Then, Guerrero made some comments recently saying that the contract he signed is based on “what he did,” not what he was going to do amid backlash from the fans.

Those comments (which can be found here) certainly made their rounds on social media, and Guerrero has now issued an apology.

“I feel that the comments I made the other day is not what I really wanted to say,” Guerrero said, via Brian Murphy of MLB.com. “Everyone deserves an apology from me. … I want to tell everyone that I’m going to continue to keep working hard to make my contract a great one.”

Prior to the 2025 season, the Blue Jays gave Guerrero a whopping 14-year, $500 million extension. In 2025, the Blue Jays made a run to the World Series, but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games.

This season, the Blue Jays were eliminated from the playoffs, and Guerrero is hitting just .263 with nine home runs and 56 RBI in 142 games, so fans have been incredibly frustrated by his poor performance.

Guerrero also said his father told him he had made a mistake and insisted he needed to apologize to the fan base.

All in all, it has been a massive disappointment for Toronto this year, and hopefully 2027 is better for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as well.
