Toronto Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is prepared to enter MLB free agency after this upcoming season. Unable to reach a longterm extension with Toronto, the right-handed slugger is entering the final year of his contract after avoiding arbitration with a $28.5 million agreement for 2025.

Guerrero is coming off his second career top-10 MVP finish. A 2024 All-Star and Silver Slugger Award winner, Guerrero finished the season with 30 home runs, 103 RBI and a .940 OPS that ranked sixth in MLB.

This level of production has Guerrero seeking a contract he claims Toronto did not come close to offering (via ESPN's Jeff Passan).

Different reports have speculated what Guerrero was seeking and what the Blue Jays ultimately offered. On Friday's episode of The Baseball Insiders Podcast, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Guerrero is "going to expect over $500 million" in free agency (h/t Bleacher Report).

Following this report, Heyman spoke exclusively with Guerrero. Among other things, the Canadian-born superstar made an admission about the New York Yankees.

"When I was a child with my dad, and like all [players’] kids I was in front of the dugout, and somebody from the Yankees told my dad that ‘You gotta take your kid [inside]. You can’t be on the field,’” Guerrero said. “I felt bad. And it stood with me.”

Recalling this moment as a child, Guerrero admitted it soured him on the Yankees. Coupled with the organization's decision not to sign his father in 2003, Guerrero has held some hard feelings towards the 27-time World Series champions.

Despite this admission from Guerrero, the four-time All-Star told Heyman he will give New York the same opportunity he will give the other 29 teams when he hits free agency.

“If I go to free agency, every team — all 30 teams — are going to have the opportunity to sit down with [me], to talk to me,” Guerrero said. “I’m OK with everything. It’s in the past.”
