The Blue Jays earned an impressive 8-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night, improving to 40-33 overall and 24-13 at home—putting them just two games behind the Yankees in the AL East. That win also clinched the three-game series over Arizona, with a sweep now in sight for the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Toronto got outstanding performances across the board. Eric Lauer delivered five strong innings with eight strikeouts and just one run allowed, improving his record to 3-1. Bo Bichette homered and collected three hits with two RBIs, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached base five times, walking thrice and adding two hits and three RBIs.

Addison Barger also shined with three hits, a walk, and an RBI, adding to the night's standout offensive efforts.

After the game, Guerrero was asked about Barger and what he contributes to the top of the Blue Jays' lineup, and the 26-year-old first baseman was full of praise for his young teammate.

“He goes out there and competes every day," Guerrero said.

Barger has been crucial for Toronto this season, batting .275 with eight homers, 46 hits, and 24 RBIs while providing spark and defense for the Blue Jays. His development as a true table-setter has been instrumental to the Jays’ offense.

Following a strong showing, the Blue Jays will now turn their attention to Thursday's series finale against the Diamondbacks. A sweep would tighten the AL East race further, especially with the Yankees in a slump, having lost six straight games.
