'Wake Up' - Yankees Announcer Eviscerates Aaron Boone In Epic Rant

The New York Yankees can't really afford any sloppy losses at this stage in the season, and yet, Aaron Boone made a brutal mistake Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins that genuinely cost his team.

After receiving five scoreless innings from Cam Schlittler, the Yankees handed the ball to Yerry De Los Santos. It was a questionable move considering Boone had every bullpen option available on Wednesday. That being said, his decision to go with De Los Santos immediately backfired. The right-hander gave up three runs without recording a single out.

Boone eventually asked Mark Leiter Jr. to get him out of this mess. Although Leiter had no trouble answering the call, it was too little, too late for the Yankees.

By the time the game finished, the Yankees found themselves on the wrong side of a 4-1 game. And whether Boone wants to hear it or not, putting De Los Santos in during the top of the sixth inning made all the difference.

Boone's strategy on Wednesday was so egregious that even Yankees play-by-play announcer Michael Kay put him on blast.

During Thursday's episode of Kay's radio show on ESPN New York, he called out Boone for mismanaging the bullpen.

"I don't know why they went to De Los Santos," Kay said at the start of his rant. "Aaron explained it after the game, 'Well we felt it was a proper lane for him'–Stop! Who's your best pitcher? Who's the better pitcher that you can bring in? Every single pitcher in the bullpen was available last night? Who's your best? Who's your best to pitch the sixth inning?"

Kay believes the Yankees are running out of time to save their season.

"People have to wake up. The season is slipping away. It's slipping away. You're tied in the loss column with the Cleveland Guardians. You're tied. And the Texas Rangers... they're breathing down you're neck."

When it comes to the division race in the AL East, it's highly unlikely the Yankees steal first place from the Toronto Blue Jays. They're currently 6.5 games behind them with less than two months left to play.

As for the Wild Card race, the Yankees are only up 0.5 game on the Guardians for the final playoff spot. They literally have zero room for comfort.

The Yankees have a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals coming up. They'll stay on the road for the start of next week to take on the Tampa Bay Rays.
