The Chicago Cubs got an extra boost Saturday in Cactus League action against the Seattle Mariners with a grand slam.
Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Cubs’ outfielder, sent it over the fence into the grass adjacent to the outfield for a 7-4 lead over the Mariners in the third inning. Justin Turner, Dansby Swanson, and Matt Shaw all scored as the bases emptied at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.

Earlier, Crow-Armstrong hit a solo home run in the second inning to pull the Cubs within a run, 2-1, after the Mariners had taken a 2-0 lead. Last season, he showed his ability to hit home runs for the Cubs, recording 10 homers in 123 games.
Chicago obtained Crow-Armstrong's rights in 2021 via a trade with the New York Mets. He had played in the Mets' farm system since 2021, a year after the team selected him in the 2020 draft with a first-round pick.
In 2023, Crow-Armstrong made his MLB debut with the Cubs. He played 13 games, scoring three runs, driving in one, and stealing seven bases, though he only reached base via walks that year.
The Sherman Oaks, California, native notably made his first career hit on a two-run home run against the Houston Astros in 2024.
