This weekend, two top teams in the league, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros, met at Dodger Stadium in a 3-game series. The Astros would sweep their opponents in this, leading to manager Dave Roberts admitting that his team got outplayed.

While the Dodgers entered this series on a winning run, the Astros had taken a blow against the struggling Colorado Rockies. In the first game of the series, the 2017 World Series rematch saw the Astros blow away the Dodgers 18-1.

The Astros would dominate the game from the start and kept on piling up hits. This led to Dodgers announcer Orel Hershiser bringing up the sign-stealing scandal of the team. Jose Altuve would be the star of this game as he homered twice.

In the second game of the series, Shohei Ohtani made his 4th start of the year. While the Japanese international threw 2 scoreless innings, the Dodgers were unable to keep their opponents at bay and ended up losing 6-4.

On Sunday, the Astros came out flying again and emerged as 5-1 winners. This saw them complete the 3-game sweep of the reigning World Series champions. Over this three games, they outscored their opponents 29-6 and registered their first series sweep of the Dodgers in Los Angeles since 2008.

While speaking to the reporters in the press conference after the game, manager Dave Roberts admitted that the Astros dominated them on the pitching side.

They just really dominated us on the pitching side. I thought conversely, offensively. They offensively had a great approach to all of our pitchers. I thought they really did. So, I don’t think it was an emotional thing. I thought we were prepared coming into this series, but we just didn’t play well or we got outplayed.

The Astros collected 40 hits in this series. The Dodgers, on the other hand, managed just 22, signaling the dominance of the AL West team. Apart from sweeping the Dodgers, the Astros had also swept the Philadelphia Phillies (leaders of the NL East) and took 2 of the 3 games against the Chicago Cubs (leaders of the NL Central) recently.

Dave Roberts recently provided huge update regarding Shohei Ohtani’s future as pitcher

Last month marked the return of Shohei Ohtani to pitching. The 31-year-old resumed his two-way role as he took to the mound. Since then, he has been used more as an opener instead of a regular pitcher. Dave Roberts recently provided a huge update regarding his future on pitching.

On Saturday, Ohtani marked his 31st birthday and took to the mound against the Astros. He would pitch two scoreless innings through 31 pitches and picked up 3 strikeouts as well.

The Dodgers though, are still cautious in their approach. Despite the injury concerns of the team, they are not throwing him into a regular starter role, which could see him pitch around 5-6 innings.

During the game on Saturday, Roberts was asked by Ken Rosenthal regarding the timeline when they could see him as a regular pitcher. The 53-year-old simply claimed he does not know.

I don’t know if that’s gonna happen this yearPeople always ask when he’s going to get to be a regular starter to the five innings. I don’t know that answer.

Following this series sweep, Dave Roberts and his team are left with a 56-35 record. Despite that, they are still 7 games ahead of the 2nd-placed team, the San Diego Padres, in the NL West standings . They will now be on the road and take on the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Francisco Giants before heading into the All-Star break.
