What Dodgers Star Mookie Betts Wants to Improve for 2025 MLB Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers finished the 2024 MLB season as World Series champions and feel just as confident about repeating this season. While the roster appears even stronger, there is some concern among their stars about improving their play.

Eight-time All-Star and four-time All-MLB First Team selection Mookie Betts is among the players who weren’t fully satisfied with their performance last season. Betts started the season at second base but moved to shortstop due to poor play from other players.

Despite missing some games due to injury, Betts had another stellar season at the plate. He also performed well at shortstop in terms of catching, recognizing plays, and quick decision-making. However, his biggest issue was his throwing from the position.

Betts committed nine errors on throws from shortstop last season. In 16 games at shortstop in 2023, he had three errors.

Betts is determined to be the solution, not the problem, defensively for the Dodgers moving forward. MLB.com’s Sonja Chen says his teammates noticed his hard work and how he put in the effort to get more comfortable in a position he isn’t very familiar with.

He is used to being one of the best fielders on the team with the Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox. Betts has claimed the Gold Glove Award six times during his stellar career, most recently in 2022.

Betts isn’t just feeling good physically but also mentally, according to manager Dave Roberts. With Betts excelling offensively and becoming more efficient defensively this season, it’s no surprise to see him among the league’s top players.
