What Does The Future Hold For The Mets And Kodai Senga After Getting Demoted?

As of today, the New York Mets are sending down Kodai Senga to make room for one of their top pitching prospects in Brandon Sproat. While Senga is most likely only going to be down there for a few starts or outings, what if he doesn’t get back to the pitcher he once was? What will the future hold for him and the Mets if he can’t figure it out?

Kodai Senga Has Been Awful Since His Return To The Mets Rotation

In nine starts since coming back from his injury, Senga holds a 5.89 ERA and a 0-3 record, which is disastrous compared to where he was before he got injured. Before that injury, Senga had a 7-3 record with a sub-2.00 ERA. Whether it’s because of the injury or another issue, Senga has struggled mightily since coming off the IL. It will be interesting to see if, once he returns from his Triple-A stint, he reverts to the pitcher he once was or if he will continue to struggle.

Senga’s Mets Future May Be Up In The Air If The Rookies Continue To Be Successful

With how well the rookies, Jonah Tong and Nolan McLean, have been pitching, Senga’s Mets future may be a question mark for next season if he can’t produce, especially come playoff time. While McLean and Tong have had a small sample size of success so far, if they continue to be as dominant as they are, there may not be a spot for Senga next year. Now the Mets also have Brandon Sproat, another top pitching prospect, coming up as well. If these guys are as good as they’re supposed to be, they may be the Mets’ top three in the rotation come next year.

It Will Be Interesting To See How Senga Responds To The Demotion

It’s intriguing to see if Senga will respond nicely to the demotion and get out of this funk, or if it will turn into another Alek Manoah situation, aka a one-season wonder. If it turns out to be that type of situation, there will be some tough decisions to make come next season. Hopefully, Senga comes back to the man he once was, because the Mets will need all the help they can get in the rotation.

End Of My Mets And Kodai Senga Rant

Senga’s demotion could mean something for his Mets future, or it may mean nothing at all. It all rides on how Senga comes back production-wise. It will certainly be interesting to see if Senga stays as a starter come playoff time or if he is used in other ways. It will be an interesting next couple of weeks for the Mets and Kodai Senga, and it will be intriguing to see how this all pans out.
