Edward Cabrera became one of the key additions to the Chicago Cubs roster in a trade deal with the Miami Marlins this winter. The former Marlins pitcher made a strong start to the season, but Cabrera clearly struggled in his past couple of outings. Meanwhile, injuries have battered the Cubs’ rotation, and the team is currently in its roughest patch of the season.
On Wednesday night, the Chicago Cubs pulled Edward Cabrera off the field in the fourth inning of his start against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old right-hander threw just one pitch to start the fourth before leaving the mound at Wrigley Field with a trainer. The Brewers scored four runs off Cabrera before his exit with an issue with his throwing hand.
“Edward Cabrera, a starting pitcher who has long tantalized the Chicago Cubs with his potential, exited Wednesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a right middle finger blister, the club announced,” Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reported.

Cabrera becomes the latest casualty in the Cubs’ rotation. Justin Steele is yet to return from his elbow surgery last year. On the other hand, Matthew Boyd is still recuperating from a recent knee surgery. Therefore, Chicago had to move Colin Rea and Ben Brown from the bullpen into starting roles.
The Chicago Cubs traded top prospect Owen Caissie to acquire Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins in January. However, Cabrera has yet to live up to the expectations, while he continues to have trouble staying healthy.
“I think he would expect better,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said before the game on Wednesday. “And I think he has better in him.”
Cabrera finished with one earned run over 3.0 innings, with the Cubs going down to a 5-0 defeat. He now has a 3-1 record for the season with a 4.06 ERA over 51.0 innings and 45 strikeouts.
