The Philadelphia Phillies begin a week-long road trip to the West Coast after dropping the series at home against the Cleveland Guardians. They will kick off a three-game set against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Monday night.
The Phillies are definitely out of their early-season slump. But they lost four of the last five games to fall below .500 once again. Meanwhile, the Padres have been quite consistent with their performance during this month. They are still below par on offense, but their pitching staff is among the best in the league.
The first pitch for the Phillies vs. Padres Game 1 is scheduled to go out at 6:40 pm ET.

For Game 1, the Phillies have Jesus Luzardo starting on the mound. Despite suffering a few big clunkers this season, the 28-year-old southpaw delivered quality starts in each of his last two outings. He now has a 3-4 record with a 4.84 ERA over 55.2 innings, striking out 66.
Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres will have Randy Vasquez as their starting pitcher on Monday. The 24-year-old is having an excellent campaign so far, but is coming off a poor outing last week. At the moment, he has a 5-2 record with 54.1 innings, a 2.96 ERA, and a 1.189 WHIP.
This encounter may not produce a lot of runs for either team with two very good starters on the mound. The Padres are a stronger unit defensively, but the Phillies should edge this contest with their superior batting lineup.
