Which hitters in MLB history have at least 50 home runs in a single season?

Several sluggers have wreaked havoc on the history books throughout the history of Major League Baseball. Those names include Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and more recently, Barry Bonds and Aaron Judge. But, which hitters have hit the 50-home-run plateau in one year? Not many have, but here’s a look at all the sluggers who have belted at least 50 home runs in a single MLB season.

Kyle Schwarber is the most recent player to hit 50 home runs in an MLB season for the first time. Schwarber accomplished the feat on September 9, 2025, against the Mets. He joined the club shortly after Cal Raleigh did in 2025 with the Mariners.

Before Raleigh and Schwarber was Sbohei Ohtani. Ohtani accomplished the feat in 2024 after he belted his 50th home run of that season on September 19. The Dodgers star hit the 50-home run marker weeks after he joined the 40/40 club, and in fact, that 50th home run saw Ohtani become the first 50/50 player in league history.

As a whole, it’s a list that includes many former MVPs, as well as Hall of Famers like Babe Ruth, Jim Thome, Ralph Kiner, and David Ortiz, among others.

However, two names who are surprisingly not on this list are Albert Pujols and Hank Aaron. Aaron was at one point the all-time leader in home runs before Barry Bonds broke the record in 2007.

Pujols became the fourth Major League player to hit 700 home runs in September 2022, but he never hit 50 in one season. The three-time NL MVP’s high mark was 49 in the Cardinals’ World Series championship season in 2006.

While Pujols may not be on this list, some of his former contemporaries, like Pete Alonso, Matt Olson, and AL home run king Aaron Judge, are.
