The Chicago White Sox have acquired outfielder Will Robertson from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte. Toronto designated Robertson for assignment on Sunday. With an open spot on the 40-man roster, his addition did not require a corresponding move.
Robertson has spent 2025 with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate, the Buffalo Bison, where he slashed .292/.403/.578 in 192 plate appearances over 62 games. He has patrolled right field for the majority of his minor league career, but saw significant time in left field, and some in center. With the trade deadline quickly approaching, it looks like the Sox will be shuffling some pieces around the roster, and Robertson adds depth.

The White Sox will likely shop most of their outfielders in the coming weeks. Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert Jr., Mike Tauchman, Michael A. Taylor, and Austin Slater should all be on the table.
Robert Jr. still demonstrates brilliant defense and baserunning, but his recent injury and .583 OPS tank his trade value. With a $20 million team option for 2026, Chicago will try to move him rather than let him walk. More than likely, Benintendi will remain on the White Sox roster due to his underperformance and the roughly $35 million remaining on his contract.
If Tauchman, Taylor, or Slater wind up on another roster in the next few weeks, the Sox will have opportunities in the outfield.
The Charlotte Knights employ Corey Julks, Dominic Fletcher, and Dru Baker in their outfield, none of whom are members of the 40-man roster. Robertson's 40-man roster status likely gives him the inside track to the first post-trade promotion.
As trade talks heat up, the Sox are quietly reloading the depth chart. Robertson may not be a headline acquisition, but he's precisely the type of player who could see time if the team moves even one or two outfielders. A similar transaction like this is possible as Chris Getz positions himself for what could be a very active few weeks.
