White Sox Designate Outfielder Everson Pereira for Assignment

Pereira, 25, appeared in 27 games for the White Sox this season and hit .225/.284/.438 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 80 at-bats. Injuries limited his availability. He missed time earlier with a right pectoral strain and later landed on the seven-day injured list after suffering a concussion when he crashed into the outfield wall at Yankee Stadium on June 17. He was reinstated on July 27 following a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte.

Despite limited opportunities, Pereira showed some flashes. He went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs in Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Rays, his strongest offensive showing of the year, just one day before the designation.

The White Sox acquired Pereira from the Rays during the offseason in a deal that sent right-handers Yoendrys Gómez and Steven Wilson to Tampa Bay. Once viewed as a high-upside prospect in the Yankees organization, Pereira has yet to establish consistency at the major league level. His career MLB line sits at .172/.246/.536 across 238 at-bats with the Yankees, Rays, and White Sox.

Chicago’s decision to part ways with Pereira came on the same day the club added center fielder Brenton Doyle from the Colorado Rockies. Doyle, another right-handed bat, further crowded the outfield depth chart and reduced Pereira’s path to regular playing time.

Pereira is now subject to waivers. If he clears, the White Sox can outright him to Triple-A Charlotte or negotiate a mutual release.
