White Sox' Dreary Start to Season Continues with Postponed Home Opener

Chicago White Sox fans will have to change their schedule.

Shortly before the first pitch in Miami on Wednesday, the organization announced that it would postpone its home opener on April 2 due to inclement weather. While temperatures are expected to reach the 60s in Chicago on Thursday, the forecast currently calls for showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. The game was expected to begin at 1:10 p.m. CT, when there is currently a 60 percent chance of rain, per The Weather Channel.

Conversely, while Friday is looking cloudy, there is currently a limited chance for precipitation. With that being the case, the matchup against the Blue Jays has officially been moved to April 3 at 1:10 p.m. CT. Parking lots will open at 10:00 a.m. CT, while fans will be able to enter The Rate at 11:10 a.m. CT.

According to the Sox' press release, all tickets purchased for April 2 will be valid for the rescheduled home opener. Fans do not have to worry about making any exchanges.

White Sox' Tough Start Gets Tougher

Following an exciting and optimistic offseason, the team has been punched in the mouth. They were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers in their opening set before finally pulling off a win in Game 1 against the Marlins. Nevertheless, their struggles both on the mound and at the plate continue as Miami blew them out with a 9-2 win on Tuesday. As of publishing, they are now behind 8-0 to the young and inexperienced Marlins in the Top of the 5.

In other words, they are in line to arrive back on the South Side with a 1-5 start to the season. And they certainly will not be favored to get back on a winning track against the reigning World Series runner-up. The Toronto Blue Jays are 4-1 going into their final meeting with the Colorado Rockies and certainly have the firepower to rough up the Sox in their own building.

Sean Burke is also set to take the mound after struggling in his first outing against the Brewers. He allowed seven hits through 4.0 innings, which led to 4 runs and a 6-1 loss. For the Sox to stand any chance, he's going to have to get them off to a better start, especially when we consider just how busy the team's bullpen has been out of the gate. Venable has been forced to call upon his relief pitchers early in almost every outing, which has undoubtedly led to a gassed group.
