Ellard, who has been trying to carve out a stable role in the White Sox bullpen, has shown flashes of potential amidst a tumultuous season. While his ERA and strikeout numbers have had their ups and downs, it's clear the Sox had been hoping for more consistent contributions from the left-hander.
In a move to shore up the bullpen in Ellard's absence, the White Sox have recalled Brandon Eisert from Triple-A Charlotte. Eisert, a promising arm in the Sox farm system, started the season with the big league club and has appeared in three games for the Sox so far this season. In those three appearances, Eisert owns a 12.00 ERA with five strikeouts over three innings of work.
Ellard's injury is a setback for a bullpen that's had its fair share of challenges this year. The right hamstring strain, typically a tricky injury to navigate, means the Sox will have to make do without one of their bullpen pieces for at least the next couple of weeks.
