White Sox Injury Update: John Brebbia Begins Rehab Assignment

Chicago White Sox reliever John Brebbia is on the comeback trail. The team announced Friday that the right-hander is joining Triple-A Charlotte for a rehab assignment.

Brebbia has been dealing with a calf injury since Spring Training that limited him to just two innings of Cactus League action. However, he began the season on the Opening Day roster and tossed 2.2 innings across four appearances for the White Sox before the injury recurred.

On April 5 against the Kansas City Royals, Brebbia fielded a ground ball to the side of the mound and had to make a contorted throw home to negate a run. The White Sox got the crucial out, but Brebbia's calf flared up on the play and forced him to exit the game. Three days later, the right-hander landed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 6) with a right calf strain.

Now, Brebbia joins the Charlotte Knights as they begin a three-game weekend series against the Syracuse Mets. It's unclear how many outings the veteran hurler will need before returning to the White Sox, but he's eligible to return from the IL on Saturday.
