The Chicago White Sox have optioned outfielder Junior Pérez to Triple-A Charlotte, according to the team’s transaction log.
The move opens a roster spot, though no corresponding addition has been announced as of Sunday evening.
Pérez, who was acquired from the Athletics in May, had been with the big-league club since mid-June. He was originally recalled when Everson Pereira was placed on the injured list with a concussion. The 24-year-old appeared in limited action and hit a home run in Sunday’s 12-3 win over the Houston Astros.
Both Austin Hays and Everson Pereira have been on rehab assignments with Charlotte in recent weeks. With the White Sox opening a series against the New York Yankees on Monday, the timing of Pérez’s option strongly suggests one of those two outfielders, or both, could be activated soon.
As of now, the team has not confirmed any additional roster moves.
