White Sox SS Tim Anderson expected to miss at least three weeks with strained groin

Ahead of Tuesday's game at the Toronto Blue Jays, the Chicago White Sox placed All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Monday because of a strained right groin.

It appears Anderson's stay on the IL won't be brief.

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), White Sox manager Tony La Russa told reporters before Tuesday's contest that Anderson is expected to miss at least three weeks of action because of this latest setback. The 28-year-old was batting .356 with five home runs and 19 RBIs across 40 games before he suffered the injury during Sunday's win over the Chicago Cubs.

In a corresponding roster move, the White Sox activated outfielder Luis Robert off the COVID-19 IL.

"The good news is that it could be worse, which means that whatever the minimum was -- you know, three weeks and not six weeks -- is realistic, maybe," La Russa explained about Anderson's injury. "He heals fast. It's still three long weeks for us."

The AP added that Anderson is traveling with the club for trips to Toronto and the Tampa Bay Rays so he can undergo treatment. Chicago began the evening at 23-23 and five games back of the first-place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central standings.
