White Sox SS Tim Anderson's one-game suspension for obscene gesture to fans reduced to fine

For the second time since late March, Chicago White Sox All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson has won a victory regarding a previous punishment he received. 

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Anderson had a one-game suspension he earned for making an obscene gesture toward fans during a contest at the Cleveland Guardians on April 20 reduced to just a fine following an appeal. 

Per Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times, cameras from the White Sox broadcast caught Anderson raising a middle finger toward spectators after he committed multiple errors in what became an 11-1 loss. He apologized for his actions after the league announced his ban later that same week. 

"There are a lot of people who really look up to me," the 28-year-old said at that time. "I take full accountability for what I did. It’s something I have to learn from and grow from.

"Game can be tough, and you can get frustrated with things people say. But there are a lot of kids out there watching. I have to be a bigger person in that situation."

Anderson is currently hitting .330 with four home runs and 10 RBI on the season, but Baseball-Reference notes he's also tallied a league-high nine errors. He was initially suspended for the first three games of the campaign after he made contact with an umpire late in the 2021 season but appealed and had the ban reduced to two contests. 

The White Sox fell to 14-14 overall via Monday's loss to the Guardians in 11 innings and will again host Cleveland (15-14) on Tuesday evening.
