According to multiple reports, the Chicago White Sox are calling up top catching prospect Edgar Quero from Triple-A Charlotte. The 22-year-old is currently ranked No. 62 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list and was recently added to Baseball America’s list as well.
Quero joined the White Sox organization at the 2023 trade deadline in a move that unofficially kicked off the current rebuild. He came over from the Los Angeles Angels along with left-handed pitching prospect Ky Bush in a trade that sent pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López west.

Quero has done nothing but hit. In 15 games with Triple-A Charlotte this season, he slashed .333/.444/.412, showing off his plate discipline and ability to control the zone. Last season, Quero split time between Double-A and Triple-A and posted a combined .286/.366/.463 line with 16 home runs and 16 doubles.
While his game is more about approach than raw power, the Pale Hose clearly believe he’s ready to face big-league arms and can help an offense in desperate need of life.
The White Sox must open a spot on the 40-man roster to make room for Quero. The most likely candidate is veteran catcher Omar Narváez, who Chicago promoted after Korey Lee went on the injured list.
In that event, Quero and Matt Thaiss will handle catching duties for now. The club has not made the move official, but White Sox skipper Will Venable confirmed that Quero will be in Chicago on Thursday and in the starting lineup.

Quero’s promotion is the latest sign that the South Siders are starting to let the kids play. With Chase Meidroth and Brooks Baldwin already in Chicago, the pipeline is beginning to flow—albeit in small doses.
It’s not a full-on youth movement yet, but Quero gives fans another reason for a team short on reasons to watch.
