The Arizona Diamondbacks have climbed to the second spot in the NL West. While they still sit 7.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, they are fighting for a playoff berth again. D’backs second baseman Ketel Marte played a vital role in the team’s success.
However, Marte’s recent activities have drawn frustrations within the team. Marte is under contract until 2030 with a player option for 2031. Despite that, rumors of the Diamondbacks parting ways with the slugger have surfaced.
The MLB trade deadline is approaching, and Ketel Marte is once again emerging as a target. There’s still a lot of time for the trade deadline, but another issue seems to be of urgency. MLB insider Bob Nightengale stated that Marte has drawn frustration with the organization.
“Meanwhile, Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, who the D-backs tried to trade during the winter, continues to frustrate segments of the organization by opting to take days off. He sat last week when Shohei Ohtani the Los Angeles Dodgers pitched against the Diamondbacks, and then played the next day and hit a walk-off homer,” Nightengale wrote.

It’s pretty surprising that Marte wants rest days, especially for a player of his caliber. When asked about the situation, Marte had a different response.
Marte is still struggling with lower-back hamstring ailments. It’s clear that he wanted a day’s rest to help in the recovery process.
“We’re all human, and we all need a day here and there,” Kete Marte said.
He further mentioned that he never wanted to risk anything by making the injury worse. The slugger’s decision to take a day off certainly drew attention, as many were not pleased with it. Marte also reportedly apologized for the situation. The D’backs need Ketel Marte in every important game, especially against teams like the Dodgers.
