The Chicago White Sox (36-31) already secured one of their biggest accomplishments in the last five years during their home series against the Atlanta Braves (45-23), as they took the first two games and seized sole possession of first place in the American League Central. The South Siders wanted the sweep, however, and will now have to wait a couple of months for the chance to clinch it. Thursday’s game in Rate Field has been postponed due to rain, the team announced.
The series finale will be made up on Aug. 20 at 1:10 p.m. CT. Tickets, prepaid parking passes and Stadium Club passes that were purchased for June 11 will be accepted on the rescheduled date. Still, fans were itching to see the White Sox inflict more punishment on the team that currently owns MLB’s best record.
The Braves suffer just their third series loss of the season, and it comes courtesy of one of the unlikeliest candidates. Chicago was entrenched in rebuild mode entering the 2026 campaign, or least it was supposed to be, but it is now firmly in the playoff picture. Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami has commanded most of the attention with his elite power (20 home runs in 200 at-bats), but even in his injury absence, the Sox continue to step up.
Braden Montgomery hitting a walk-off blast in his MLB debut proves that magic is wafting through 333 West 35th Street. Will Venable’s lineup is packed with impactful contributors, including Miguel Vargas, Colson Montgomery, Tristan Peters, Sam Antonacci and Chase Meidroth. Chicago is playing with tremendous confidence and glee, and the result is one of the top home records in the sport (22-11).
The White Sox will immediately get a chance to build on this momentum, as they welcome in the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers starting this Friday night.
