New York Yankees' manager Aaron Boone provided an injury update on designated hitterGiancarlo Stanton, who is currently on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain.
The 36-year-old was only able to play 24 games this season before going down with the injury. In those 24 games, Stanton slashed .256/.302/.422 with three home runs and 14 RBI. He was in the middle of a tough 15 game stretch that saw him hit below a .600 OPS before the injury.
The slugger was removed from the April 27 game against the Houston Astros after injuring himself while jogging the bases. While it is a low-grade calf injury, Stanton's continued lower-body issues make it more impactful. The Yankees will not want to rush him back.
This marks Stanton's seventh injured list stint since 2021. Boone stated on Thursday that will not be joining the team for their upcoming road trip, but that he will continue baseball activities on Saturday, after taking batting practice Wednesday.
Giancarlo Stanton will take live BP again on Saturday, then continue ramping up running. Stanton won’t be activated during the next road trip, Aaron Boone said.

This is encouraging news for the Yankees as it sets up a timeline of mid-to-late June for Stanton's activation.
The former MVP has not played a full season since 2018.
Coming into Thursday's series finale against the Cleveland Guardians, the Yankees have a record of 17-15 in the 32 games that Stanton has missed. They are missing his big bat in the lineup to solidify the middle of the order. Now with Aaron Judge expected to miss time, the Yankees could be in trouble with two huge bats missing from the lineup.
Even with all of his unfortunate injuries, he has been a playoff riser for the Yankees. In his 48 postseason games with New York, he has hit to a .927 OPS with 18 home runs, 44 RBI and 107 total bases. He may not be able to provide the team with much production during the regular season, but it is important for him to be healthy come October.
The Yankees sit in second place in the American League East division behind the Tampa Bay Rays, they hold a record of 36-25. The Yankees have struggled immensely against teams over .500, they have a record of 3-10 against them. These struggles continued after dropping the first two games to the Guardians.
The Yankees look to get back in the win column on Thursday amid back-to-back losses. They take on the Guardians at 1:35 P.M. in New York with Carlos Rodón on the bump.
