Yankees’ Aaron Boone Delivers Trent Grisham Statement

Trent Grisham’s latest injury has left the New York Yankees facing another uncertain outfield situation with the postseason approaching.

Grisham exited Friday’s 3-2 extra-inning loss to the San Diego Padres after appearing to tighten up while running the bases and then playing defense in center field. The Yankees are now waiting on further evaluation of his right hamstring.

Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the possibility of another stint on the injured list, telling reporters, “Not sure yet if it’s an IL or not, but it certainly could be.”

The update was reported by Yankees insider Bryan Hoch following the game.

The injury is particularly concerning because Grisham has already missed significant time this season with a right hamstring strain. He spent weeks on the injured list earlier in the summer before returning to become an important part of New York’s outfield alignment.

Grisham has appeared in 120 games this season, batting.211 with a .702 OPS, 18 home runs and 59 RBIs. He has also provided consistent time in center field for the Yankees.

New York does have options if Grisham needs another extended absence. Spencer Jones has already seen significant major league action this season, while Jasson Domínguez remains another potential option for the outfield.

The timing, however, is less than ideal for a Yankees club trying to close the gap in the AL East. New York entered Saturday four games behind the Tampa Bay Rays while holding a sizable advantage in the Wild Card race.

For now, the Yankees will wait for the medical evaluation before determining whether Grisham will require another IL stint. If he is sidelined, Boone and the front office will have to find another way to cover center field during the stretch run.
