Yankees’ Aaron Boone makes huge Max Fried announcement

Max Fried hasn’t been on the mound for the past few weeks as he’s been dealing with a bone bruise in his left elbow. The injury was never considered serious, and based on Aaron Boone’s comments on Friday, New York Yankees fans can expect Fried to return soon.

Reports indicate that the 32-year-old left-hander will play in one of the two games in Saturday’s double-header against the Boston Red Sox, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN. Fried returns just in time to ramp up for the playoffs.

“Max Fried will start one of the two games against the Red Sox tomorrow, Aaron Boone said,” Castillo reported.

The three-time All-Star has only made 15 starts this season, as injuries have kept him at bay throughout the campaign. But when he’s healthy, Fried is still very much one of the best pitchers in MLB. Through 86.1 innings pitched so far this year, Fried owns a 2.81 ERA and 0.996 WHIP with 79 strikeouts.

Max Fried’s return comes at an opportune time, as the Yankees are closing in on securing a playoff spot. They own the second-best record in the American League right now, and look like one of the top threats to make a World Series run in the conference. Fried’s presence gives New York a huge uplift in the starting rotation moving forward.

The four-game series against the Red Sox kicks off on Friday, which will be followed by the double-header before wrapping up on Sunday. It’s a pivotal series, as the Yankees are just two games ahead of Boston in the AL East.
