Yankees Claim Promising Young Outfielder Off Waivers From Guardians
Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees have added some outfield depth.

According to Jack Curry of The YES Network, the Yankees have claimed outfielder Oscar Gonzalez off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians.

Last season, Gonzalez slashed .214/.239/.312 with two home runs and 12 RBIs across 173 at-bats in 54 games.

Gonzalez made his major league debut for Cleveland in 2022, and was solid. In 91 games, he slashed .296/.327/.461 with a .788 OPS, 11 home runs and 43 RBIs.

For his career, Gonzalez, 25, has a slash line of .269/.299/.413 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs in 145 games.

Gonzalez will be added to the Yankees' 40-man roster and has two remaining options, per Joel Sherman of The New York Post.

Gonzalez had a walk-off single against the Yankees in the 2022 ALDS, which is the biggest hit of his career to this date.

Gonzalez is still young and has the potential to be a serviceable major leaguer based off his production in his rookie year in 2022.

At the very least, he provides outfield depth for the Yankees, who struggled in this area in 2023 due to a number of injuries.
