The New York Yankees designated veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk for assignment on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old journeyman signed as a free agent during training camp, with the Yankees becoming his seventh MLB team.

In a corresponding move, the Yankees brought up right-hander Elmer Rodriguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Rodriguez, 22, will start and make his MLB debut against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon.

At Triple-A, Rodriguez had a 1-2 record and 1.27 ERA in four starts.

In limited action this season, Grichuk batted .194 with two RBIs. He is a career .250 hitter with 212 homers and 631 RBIs in 1,376 games since making his MLB debut in 2014 with the St. Louis Cardinals.
