Fans around the country were planning to watch a prime-time clash between World Series favorites, but a storm’s a brewin’. Saturday night’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers (62-36) and New York Yankees (54-43) has been postponed because of inclement weather, the home-team Yanks announced. It will be rescheduled as the first game of a split-admission doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 12:35 p.m. ET.

Fans with tickets for the canceled July 18 showdown can use them for this afternoon matchup or “exchange them for tickets to a similar regular season game at Yankee Stadium.”

New York was teeming with anticipation following another bitter loss versus the Dodgers. LA returned to The Bronx on Friday for the first time since clinching the 2024 championship. Aaron Boone’s ballclub combusted in that infamous Game 5 defeat, with Aaron Judge, Austin Wells, Gerrit Cole and Anthony Volpe all making costly mistakes. A surefire victory descended into a season-ending debacle, leaving many to wonder if leadership changes were needed.

The Yankees remain in title contention almost two years later and boast the highest run-differential in the American League, but fans would feel much better if their squad could land a blow on the two-time reigning champs. They will have to wait before such a wish can be granted.

FOX loses the opportunity to showcase MVP candidates Shohei Ohtani and Ben Rice, or MLB fixtures like Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. These stars and others will try to get some extra rest and gear up for a double feature in The Big Apple.

It remains to be seen if Mother Nature will have anything else to say before series’ end.
