The bullpen was viewed as an area of concern for the New York Yankees coming into the season. Devin Williams and Luke Weaver bolted for the other team in New York, leaving the Yankees with little reliever depth or star power. Still, Aaron Boone had a unit that he believed in. The Yankees’ manager has regularly reaffirmed his confidence in the relief pitching throughout the season, but they let him down yet again in the Yankees’ 7-6 loss to the Mets on May 17.
David Bednar, in particular, had a disastrous performance. The Yankees were up when their closer entered the game, but he gave up a three-run homer to Tyrone Taylor that tied the game up. The Mets’ Carson Benge would go on to hit the walkoff in extra innings. Now, the Yankees may have no choice but to add more help to their bullpen.

The unit as a whole has struggled as of late, and reinforcements are needed. Furthermore, Hoch confirmed that Elmer Rodriguez will remain in the rotation for another turn.
The 22-year-old starting pitcher had played admirably since being called up. He has a 4.15 ERA over three starts. The Puerto Rican has been serviceable with Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, and Clarke Schmidt on the injured list.
The Yankees have loads of starting pitcher potential, and the bats rarely let the team down. New York is first in home runs yet again this year. Bednar should be better going forward, but the team may have no option but to add talent to the bullpen if they truly want to contend.
