The New York Yankees placed outfielder Trent Grisham on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right hamstring strain, the team announced, hours before manager Aaron Boone cast new doubt on Giancarlo Stanton's return.
Grisham suffered the injury on Friday in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, sliding between first and second base on a two-run single before exiting the game. TO fill the roster spot, the Yankees reinstated outfielder Jasson Dominguez from the injured list.
Grisham, 29, was batting .232 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs in 66 games this season, though he had been one of New York's hottest bats as of late, hitting .351 with two home runs, a triple, 13 runs scored and eight RBIs in his last 14 games.
Stanton had been expected back early in the upcoming homestand on Tuesday, June 16. That timeline is now in jeopardy, after the designated hitter felt something in his calf during a running session, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post. Stanton could undergo further imaging to determine the severity of the setback.
It's truly unfortunate timing, as the Yankees were counting on him as an offensive reinforcement. Stanton had been out since late April with a right calf strain and was hitting .256 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 24 games before the injury.
Giancarlo Stanton was initially expected back early on this upcoming homestand. That is now in jeopardy, Boone said, after he felt something in his calf while running recently. Stanton may go for more imaging to check if anything is up.

Prior to this news, the Yankees had already lost Aaron Judge to injury earlier in the month, with a fractured rib that will likely keep him out of the lineup until late July or early August. With Grisham and Stanton on the IL, the team will have to rely on its young talent to keep it afloat in the American League East.
