Yankees Let a Rookie Star Go and Now He’s Making History

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been solid for the New York, no doubt. But Agustin Ramirez? The top prospect the Yankees sent to the Miami Marlins for Chisholm last season? He’s gone from prospect to potential star super fast.

Ramirez hit his 89th career game on Wednesday night. He now has three multi-homer games and at least two multi-steal games. That puts him in rare company. Only Duke Kenworthy and Darryl Strawberry managed that before their 90th game, according to @OptaStat on X.com.

In the Aug. 1–3 series against the Yankees, Ramirez gave the team that dealt him away an up-close and personal look at what they were missing. He was nearly unstoppable.

First, his walk-off dribbler capped a 13–12 Marlins win. Then, he crushed two solo homers totaling 839 feet to lead Miami to a 2–0 victory. He now leads all National League rookies in doubles (24), homers (17), RBIs (50), and runs (48).

Chisholm Jr.has been professional, not sensational. In 2025 with the Yankees, he’s hitting .244 with 18 homers, 49 RBIs, and a .807 OPS. He's added a lot of swagger and style to the Yankees' clubhouse and made the boneheaded baserunning play that cost them a game in Miami.

Chisholm is a two-time All-Star and has played a key role in keeping the Yankees afloat. If he leads the Yankees into October, the deal still makes sense. But if Ramirez keeps writing history in South Beach, that trade starts looking like something else entirely.

Sometimes, the game comes down to fit. And right now, Ramírez is fitting in like he belongs as a headliner in the big leagues. The Yankees can only watch now as his star rises.
