The New York Yankees have made MLB history in just the second game of the 2025 season. Unfortunately for the Milwaukee Brewers, it came at their expense.
During the bottom of the first inning, Paul Goldschmidt got the party started for the Yankees with a solo homer off Nestor Cortes. The All-Star first baseman swung on the first pitch of the afternoon. That ended up being the start of a historic three-inning stretch for the Bronx Bombers.
Newly-acquired slugger Cody Bellinger hit a solo shot of his own off Cortes in the bottom of the inning. Aaron Judge decided he wanted to get in on the action, so he also crushed a home run off his former teammate. We'll have more on the two-time MVP in just a moment.
Before the first inning mercifully came to an end for Cortes, he gave up a home run to Austin Wells. He also surrendered a three-run shot to Anthony Volpe in the bottom of the second inning.
It wasn't until the bottom of the third inning that New York made history. Judge sent Yankee Stadium into a frenzy by crushing a grand slam off Connor Thomas.
The very next batter, Jazz Chisholm, hit a home run of his own to give the Yankees a 13-3 lead over the Brewers. That at-bat set an MLB record for home runs through three innings with seven.

Judge kept the celebrations rolling in the Bronx by crushing his third homer of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning.
During this Saturday's broadcast, Michael Kay pointed out that the Yankees made new bats for this season. He said the analytics department "moved a lot of the wood into the label so the harder part of the bat is going to strike the ball."
Clearly, those adjustments have paid off.
