Yankees Make Jasson Dominguez Announcement After Leaving Rangers Game

The New York Yankees are hoping this is the year outfielder Jasson Dominguez finally lives up to his potential. Time is no longer on his side, as he is now in his fourth season on the roster.

Dominguez was once one of New York’s top prospects, but his bat has never fully translated to the big-league level. The 23-year-old even began the season at Triple-A, but after performing well in the minors, he earned an April call-up.

Through eight appearances, he has posted a .200 batting average, .250 on-base percentage, .617 OPS, one home run and four RBIs. Unfortunately for Dominguez, the results have been familiar, inconsistent offense paired with below-average defense.

There was still time for him to turn it around, but now Dominguez may be dealing with a long-term setback. During Thursday’s game against the Texas Rangers, he suffered an injury on the very first play of the day.

Rangers leadoff hitter Brandon Nimmo lined a ball to left field, and Dominguez made an excellent running catch before crashing violently into the wall. He stayed down for several minutes as trainers and manager Aaron Boone rushed out.

A cart was brought onto the field, and Dominguez’s day ended immediately. Ryan McMahon entered the game in his place, with Cody Bellinger shifting to left field and Amed Rosario moving from third base to right field.

Roughly an hour later, the Yankees announced an update on Dominguez’s condition. “The #Yankees say Jasson Dominguez is in concussion protocol. He'll be monitored for the next several days. He is also undergoing an MRI on his left shoulder,” reported Gary H. Phillips of the New York Daily News.

This is not the first setback Dominguez has experienced this season. Just last week, he suffered a left elbow contusion after being hit by a pitch, also against the Rangers.

With Dominguez now in concussion protocol, the Yankees will proceed cautiously, as head injuries can be unpredictable and recovery timelines vary widely.
