The New York Yankees aren't the best team in baseball, but they're the best with the longball. They entered Thursday's matchup with the Chicago White Sox leading MLB with 225 homers, 24 ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Yankees continued their power-hitting prowess in Chicago, as left fielder Cody Bellinger hit a two-run homer to right in the first inning before second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed with a solo shot in the second. Center fielder Trent Grisham then smashed a two-run home run of his own to right center in the eighth, his sixth in the last nine games.
The latter veteran's homer was also a historic one, via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
"With Trent Grisham's homer, the Yankees have matched the MLB record for team home runs in a 10-game span (33 by 1977 [Boston] Red Sox, 2006 [Atlanta] Braves, 2019 [Los Angeles] Dodgers)," he reported.
New York won 10-4, extending its winning streak to five games. The club is now a half-game behind the Red Sox for second place in the AL East and four games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first.
Most importantly for the Yankees, a struggling starter may finally be out of his funk.

Bellinger, Chisholm, and Grisham homering is par for the course this season, as Grisham now has 27 while the other two have 26. However, shortstop Anthony Volpe had a much-needed performance at the plate, too.
The 24-year-old went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored, snapping 0-for-25 and 1-for-38 slumps. He did record his AL-leading 18th error as well, but his offensive output gives him something to build on moving forward.
New York benched Volpe for Sunday's 7-2 win over Boston and Monday's 10-5 victory over the Washington Nationals before starting him again on Tuesday. The third-year veteran then went a combined 0-for-9 with three strikeouts over the next two games.
Volpe is now slashing .207/.271/.397 with 18 homers and 66 RBI over 132 games this year. The 5-foot-10-inch, 197-pounder's contact hitting and defense have made him a liability, but he could make up for that by regaining his 2024 playoff form. He slashed .286/.407/.408 with one homer and six RBI over 14 postseason games last season.
Up next for the Yankees is another clash with the White Sox on Friday night. Southpaw pitcher Carlos Rodon (14-7, 3.24 ERA) will start for New York against Chicago right-hander Yoendrys Gomez (3-1, 4.73 ERA).
