Yankees ‘making no secret’ about trade they desire

The New York Yankees look to win the American League East this season, and head back to the World Series. Ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline, New York is looking for some help. A new report sheds light on what the Bronx Bombers are looking for.

“The Yankees are making it no secret they want Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers at the trade deadline,” Bob Nightengale reported Sunday for USA Today.

This season, Jeffers is a bright spot for the Twins offense. He has seven home runs on the season, while batting at a .295 average. Jeffers has also posted 26 RBIs, but is out with an injury.

The Twins are struggling this season. Minnesota has a 37-41 record on the year. The club is currently third in the American League Central with seven wins in the last 10 games.

New York is used to buying talent ahead of the trade deadline. The Yankees are one of the biggest spenders in baseball. The team is also linked this season to Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

If Jeffers doesn’t head to New York, the Yankees have some other options. New York would reportedly love a right-handed catcher.

“Others like Jake Rogers (Tigers) and Christian Vázquez (Astros) could be lower-cost trade targets. (Yankees catcher Austin) Wells has not hit much this year, but he is a top-flight defender, and the Yankees may not want to fully displace him as their starter,” CBS Sports reported.

There is pressure on the Yankees to win a World Series this season. New York made the Fall Classic in 2024, but got bounced in the ALDS in 2025 by Toronto. Yankees skipper Aaron Boone has yet to win a World Series as the team manager.

Heading into Sunday, the Bronx Bombers have the lead in the AL East. New York is 46-29 on the season. The MLB trade deadline is August 3.
