The Yankees are finally making the infield move that fans, analysts, and even some players were hoping for. Jazz Chisholm Jr. will move back to second base for Tuesday night's series opener against the Mariners.

Manager Aaron Boone told "Talkin’ Yanks" that Chisholm will return to second base Tuesday night against the Mariners, with Oswald Peraza stepping in at third. It’s a move that reshuffles the Yankees’ infield. That also puts DJ LeMahieu back on the bench, at least for now.

Chisholm wasn’t in the lineup Sunday night due to a sore shoulder. But he’s expected to be healthy enough to start Tuesday, and Boone said the plan is for him to do it at second base.

In 59 games this season, the 27-year-old has a slash line of .245/.341/.500 with 15 home runs, 38 RBIs and 10 steals.

That’s the position Chisholm played to start the season before an oblique injury sent him to the injured list. When he returned last month, the Yankees slotted him in at third—a move that didn’t stick. He’s struggled at the hot corner, making multiple throwing errors and looking uncomfortable at times. Analysts like Jack Curry of YES Network had already started floating the possibility of a switch back to second.

Boone didn’t dismiss it then. Now, he’s making it happen.

The change also opens the door for more reps for Peraza, who’s roster spot is in danger with the MLB trade deadline looming.  The Yankees clearly want to give him a longer look, especially at third, a position that’s been a defensive question mark since Chisholm shifted over.

As for LeMahieu, he’s hit .266, with three doubles, while driving in 12 runs and launching two home runs. His on-base percentage sits at .338 and his OPS is at .674.

Whether it sparks the infield or just steadies it, Boone’s finally making a move. It’s one of the numbers and fans have been begging for.
