With just 21 regular season games left for the New York Yankees, the team announced on Sunday that they will be without their leadoff hitter for at least the next ten days.
After leaving Friday night’s loss against the San Diego Padres , Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham is going back on the 10-day IL with a strained right hamstring. According to manager Aaron Boone, the injury occurred when Grisham was attempting to steal second base in the top of the second inning. Grisham was replaced by outfielder Heliot Ramos in the third inning after just one at-bat.

Jasson Domínguez is back in the big leagues.
This will be the second time that Grisham lands on the IL for a right hamstring injury this season. The outfielder missed 18 games in June and July earlier this season, making this a concerning reaggravation. If the injury is of similar severity, Grisham could realistically miss the rest of the regular season.
Grisham has had a fairly typical year compared to his career averages, but Yankees fans are all aware of how clutch some of his hits have been in recent weeks. According to FanGraphs, Grisham has one of MLB’s highest wRC+ and wOBA scores in high-leverage plate appearances this season. For the year, Grisham is slashing .211/.308/.395 with 18 home runs, 59 RBI, and a solid 89:61 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Imaging is expected. “It seems like an injury,” Boone said, but no IL decision yet.

In a corresponding move, the Yankees have recalled outfielder Jasson Dominguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Perhaps the more important update that Yankees fans are waiting for is what appears to be the imminent return of All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge. The reigning AL MVP has been taking batting practice for the first time since his injury and is reportedly targeting next week’s homestand as his return to the Yankees lineup.
