The New York Yankees are back to their winning ways with a five-game win streak going into their second game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night.
With the offense continuing to have issues despite the win streak, the pitching staff has to pull their weight to keep the Yankees in this tight American League East division race with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The only issue with that starting pitching rotation has been the injuries, the dream staff of Cam Schlittler, Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, Carlos Rodón and Ryan Weathers has yet to work together thus far.
But a new update on Fried may finally get this rotation back to health.
The 32-year-old left-hander threw a 26 pitch bullpen session on Saturday for the first time since landing on the 15-day injured list with a bone bruise.
New York’s pitching coach Matt Blake commented that the session all went well. If Blake is correct, Fried should be set to spend the minimum amount of time on the injured list.
Max Fried threw a 26 pitch bullpen session today. First time on the mound since landing on IL (bone bruise left elbow). According to pitching coach Matt Blake all went well. Fried said yesterday he’s optimistic he’ll only need the minimum on the IL #yankees

Fried has been unstoppable as a Yankee, and this year is no different.
He is posting a 2.81 ERA with 79 strikeouts and a 1.00 WHIP in 86 1/3 innings across 15 starts.
