Yankees promote pitcher after Jasson Dominguez roster move

The New York Yankees demoted outfielder Jasson Dominguez following Thursday’s 10-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. With Dominguez being demoted to Triple-A, New York promoted right-handed pitcher Bradley Hanner ahead of Friday night’s game against the New York Mets.

Hanner, 27, made his MLB debut earlier this season. Overall, he’s pitched in a total of three big league contests. At Triple-A this season, the right-hander has impressed with a 2.44 ERA across 45 outings out of the bullpen. He could make an impact out of the Yankees bullpen over the final few weeks of the regular season.

Dominguez was demoted after hitting just .225 with a .635 OPS across 57 big league games this year. While he has a bright future and was a top prospect for a reason, Dominguez has yet to establish himself as a reliable MLB player. He is only 23 years old, so there is plenty of time for Dominguez to figure things out. Perhaps this move will help him get back on track.

The Yankees will enter play on Friday night trailing the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East standings by three games. New York holds the top AL Wild Card spot, but the ball club would obviously love to win the division. Defeating a Mets team that has struggled all season would help their situation without question.

Friday’s contest represents the first matchup of a three-game series between the Mets and Yankees at Yankee Stadium. First pitch for Friday’s game between the New York ball clubs is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET.
