The New York Yankees have had a strong start to their 2025 season. They swept the Milwaukee Brewers in their opening three-game series and outscored the NL Central club 36-14 during it.
The Yankees will now look to stay hot as they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Overall, it could not have been a better start to the season for the Yankees, especially with all the injuries the club suffered during Spring Training.
Now, the Yankees have added to their pitching depth by bringing back an old friend. The AL East club announced that they have signed reliever Adam Ottavino to a major league contract and have assigned him to their active roster.
Ottavino spent Spring Training with the Boston Red Sox on a minor-league deal. However, after not earning a spot on their major league roster, he opted out of his contract and became a free agent. Now, he is back with the Yankees because of it.
Ottavino, 39, previously pitched for the Yankees during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. In 97 games with the club during his first stint, he posted an 8-8 record, a 2.76 ERA, and 113 strikeouts.
Ottavino will now provide the Yankees with another veteran reliever to work with. In 724 career games split between the St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies, Yankees, Red Sox, and New York Mets, he has a 41-43 record and 3.49 ERA.
