New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe continues to make steady progress from his shoulder injury.
He's been on the injured list since before the start of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.
However, it shouldn't be much longer before he can make his season debut.
According to Newsday Sports insider Erik Boland, the Yankees designated him for a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset.
“The plan with Anthony Volpe as of now, which is always subject to change, is for him to start a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Somerset,” Boland reported.
Of course, that date can always change, depending on his progress before Tuesday's matchup.
Volpe suffered the injury in May, but he opted to play through it for most of the season. He went under the knife in October to address the issue after a disappointing third year in the league.
Once tabbed as the Yankees' next superstar at shortstop, the 24-year-old slashed .212/.22/.391 slash line with 19 home runs, 72 RBI, 18 stolen bases, 43 walks and 150 strikeouts in 596 plate appearances for Aaron Boone's team in 2025.
Jose Caballero has struggled at the plate as his replacement, hitting just .135 with one RBI and three runs scored. He does have five stolen bases and has played outstanding defense. Ryan McMahon and Amed Rosario also give Boone's team other depth options.
Regardless, Volpe will most likely reclaim his starting spot once he's finally back to full strength.
